Shadowlands: Siege the Day

April 12-13
Site opens 12:32pm Saturday
Closes 10:32am Sunday

Good Gentles All;

You are most cordially invited to our humble Keep for an evening of Dance, Game, Song, Cooking, and Sport. We welcome all faiths and nationalities, with activities throughout our evening inspired by both mother Europe and the exotic East. Though the Holy Lands have grown more tumultuous following the first crusade, we are confident that our strong walls will keep us safe. Even if we should fall under attack, our pleasant diversions will occupy us throughout any siege. If you are untrained in the fine arts of passing the time, fear not. Instructors of music, dance, games, and other arts will be provided. Arrangements have been made for your rest and repast, so please plan to spend the night with us. Our only regret is that our cellars are not well stocked. Please bring what spirits you desire to make merry.

Yours In Good Humor,
Lord Bastian Eisengart, Event Steward

Solve the Mystery:
There is a traitor in our midst! He (or she) has killed the head cook and plans to help the besieging army take our Keep! Help us find out who he (or she) is before they can finish sapping the wall.

Siege Cooking of the Night's Feast:
The Head Cook has been murdered! Who will cook the feast? A competition will decide which of the undercooks will take over as Head Cook. Those wishing to compete may bring any reasonable spices and cooking equipment. Contact Francois la Flamme with any questions you may have.

Classes:
Dance: learn the dances for the ball
Music: musicians, practice the music for the ball
Other classes will also be available. Please contact Isabelot de Forens if you would like to teach a class.

Scavenger Hunt & Games:
There will be a scavenger hunt (more details on site). The best hunter will get a prize.
Compete in period games and games of chance to best your fellow besieged for fabulous prizes.

Bardic Competition:
Come and compete with your fellow bards for the acclaim of the besieged. There will not be a scheduled time for the Bardic Competition; just perform your piece at an appropriate moment (as it would have really happened). You may perform your piece(s) at any time from 12:52 pm, Saturday, until 7:52 am, Sunday morning. Be sure your piece is appropriate for the entertainment of a large, diverse audience. Period pieces are encouraged, but any piece that preserves the mood and theme of the event are appropriate. Documentation is not required.

The Ball:
No evening would be complete without a ball! Come dance with us. The dances for the night will be listed here so everyone can have a chance to polish up on their dancing skills before the big night. Musicians, dust off your instruments and come play with us. Live music is always best for dancing!

We know its a little late to practice, but here is a list of the dances: Nika Nika, Rufty Tufty, Petite Vriens, Hearts Ease, Trenchmore, Grathering Peascods, Juice of Barley, Rostiboli Gioioso, Korobushka, Heralds in Love, Bransle Suite, Black Alman, Picking of Sticks, Parson's Farewell, Whirligig, Halfe Hannikan, If All the World Were Paper.
